The more things change the more they stay the same. This is an old, old photo from back about twelve years ago. The desk is different. The computer is different. The cat is larger but he still insists upon sitting there. Writing challenges.
Another writer challenge: getting the word out about the books.
And one way writers are doing that is by having Kickstarter campaigns. Here’s an example of a cozy mystery campaign: Corkscrews and Camembert. Notice there’s some information on the books and then you can pledge a certain amount. It’s a great way for authors to work on promoting their upcoming works or to promote older works that they are rebranding or offering special editions.
I admit that I am working on creating one for a series that I’ve been working on. Right now it’s wending it’s way through a fairly long editing process. I have ideas on the covers and will be setting up the Kickstarter once I have those. I hope to launch in August of this year, though because there are witches, I may wait until October when I could get a boost from Kickstarter if it does it’s “Witchtober” promo at that time.
While we see fewer bookstores in our towns, there remain many different places for authors to sell books. Not only are my books on all the major platforms, I also have my own store, here. And there are places like Kickstarter, not to mention the small indie bookstores, particularly specialty stores that may be local in your area.
So, this afternoon, when I finish my writing, I’m going to pick up The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James. Ghosts and creepy gothic settings and interesting twists. I’ve been reading her books for the last few weeks and loving them!
